In what probably amounts to good news for consumers eyeing a hybrid for their next vehicle purchase, Honda is resurrecting the “Insight” name, this time in the form of a five-seat, Prius-like hatchback. The automaker’s announcement included the tantalizing statement that the cost would be “significantly below [that of] hybrids available today,” but provided no further details on pricing. Although Honda may have some trouble unseating Toyota’s dominance of this particular hybrid market, hopefully the Insight’s reintroduction will help to make hybrid cars even more affordable to consumers. This is also welcome news to folks like myself who, after the initial flurry of excitement when the now-retired original Insight was introduced in ‘99, were left scratching their heads at Honda’s hybrid strategy as Toyota picked up their dropped ball and ran with it.

Data profiling is the process of examining the
data available in existing data sources (e.g.
databases, applications, files, etc.) and
collecting statistics and information about this
data. Data profiling enables the assessment of the
quality level of the data contained in the
information system, according to a defined set of
metrics and goals. Talend Open Profiler allows
business users or data management staff to define
a set of indicators for each data element that
needs to be analyzed or monitored. It produces
sophisticated reports and graphs that let users
gauge at a glance the level of quality of the data
and the status of the indicators that were defined.
License: GNU General Public License v2
Changes:
Wizards for indicators options have been enhanced. A new option (called expected value) exists for the mode indicator. Warnings will appear when the mode is different from the value set in the options.
A wizard helps you to import your own regular expressions from an Excel file and create your business indicators. Several bugs have been fixed.

Galapix is an image viewer that allows you to
directly zoom into large collections of tens of
thousand of images from tiny thumbnails down to
the images’ original size fluently with short load
times and no loss of interactivity. It
accomplishes this by keeping a tile cache which
stores not only thumbnails for one size, but
thumbnails of many different sizes.
License: GNU General Public License v3
Changes:
This initial release contains support for JPEG
files and allows you to smoothly zoom into a
collection of those files. Up 50,000 files at once
should work fine. Support for other file formats
is missing and the background loading shows some
visible artifacts.

Spelling Suggestion Class is a PHP class that can
be used to suggest text spelling corrections using
the Yahoo API. It takes text as a parameter and

Namingmuse has been ported to use tagpy instead of
python-taglib, easing installation. The free text
search interface has been updated for the new
freedb Web page. A -c option was added for
explicitly specifying the freedb record to use for
tagging.
deco is a command-line program that, together with the deco-archive package, allows you to extract dozens of popular archive file formats. It has a consistent interface (”deco 1.tar.bz2 2.rar 3.zip 4.flac 5.deb”) and consistent behavior (never deleting archives after extraction and extracting relative to the current working directory, just verbosely enough, all unless explicitly requested otherwise). It creates an extraction directory if there is more than one file or directory at the archive top level, and it is able to fix strange permissions.
License: GNU General Public License v3
Changes:
This release avoids relying on theoretically
undefined behavior with regards to pointers. The
system’s stat() function is called less often,
which reduces overhead on some platforms. deco’s
source code has become more readable.
